Student of the Week: Rueben Todman
Stars and Stripes November 4, 2024
“I have four older siblings, and they all play sports. [I] always had a little bit of pressure, and I always looked up to them because I see how they were able to perform, and they were able to succeed”
— Rueben Todman
Family-oriented Rueben Todman is a senior at Kaiserslautern High School. While he is “technically a military kid” he has never had to move during his school years except when he transferred from Ramstein High School to Kaiserslautern High for his junior and senior years. After hearing the experiences of his older siblings and fellow military kids, he is glad to have never had to leave his friends behind.
Todman is a busy guy. He helps out with his mom’s food truck, is a member of the Black Student Union and plays baseball, basketball and football.
He is currently the quarterback on the KHS football team, which made it to the European semi-finals. He is very proud of his team, which he thinks has improved significantly since last season.
After a loss last season to Vilseck High School, Todman and his team came back strong and won against them in the first game of this year’s season. He thinks, “that really set the tone for this season this year. We are a different team. We can compete even though we are undersized and that we (the team) are going to go a long way.”
His biggest challenge as the leader of the team is finding the “homeostasis” between celebrating the wins and taking responsibility for the losses. He is working on not being so hard on himself after a losing game.
Todman’s favorite subjects in school are ELA (English Language Arts) and Science. He really gets into writing short stories and finds science fascinating because he gets to learn how the world works. He especially enjoyed his Physics class last year because of all the projects they got to do.
He recommends KHS to new students because they can find their group and “get comfortable quickly.” Even if a student has a problem, Todman is confident that they can get the help they need from staff. He, personally, likes talking with Miss Bradford.
After high school, his dream scenario is to study business and play college football at UTSA (University of Texas, San Antonio). However, he plans to start at a Division Two school and transfer later.
