Meet Poppy/Luna!

If there is one thing Italy has to offer beyond exquisite cuisine and adventurous travels, it is its street cats. And Poppy is a diamond in the rough.

Technically not ours, Poppy is a tabby who roams of her own free will, favoring our home and our neighbor’s home. Her name comes from our first arrival in Italy, when the bold, red flowers took over Italy’s roadsides. Poppy would come by frequently and began entering the house without invitation, but we did not mind the intrusion. Our home soon became her favorite place to lounge indoors on a rainy or cold day/night and to soak up the Italian sun on our front porch.

After a few months and a coffee date with our kind Italian neighbor, we solved the mystery of who her rightful owners were, and her true name – Luna.

Although Poppy/Luna is not rightfully ours, she still comes to visit daily, enjoying catnaps on the couch and sneaking fresh bites off the grill. She has made living in Italy a dream for almost a year now, and we could not have hoped for a better neighbor with no sense of boundaries other than Poppy. Her true name may be Luna, but she forever remains Poppy on our side of the fence.
