Stars and Stripes Europe recently had the opportunity to sit down with the Boys’ DODEA European Tennis Singles Champion and Ramstein High School Senior, Tristan Chandler.
Tristan is not only the three-time reigning champ and MVP, but also remains undefeated in all matches played for the past three years. He is set to win this year’s championship as well, which would make him the only tennis player in history to win the championship four years in a row for boys and girls tennis.
His love for tennis is seen on and off the courts as he aims to help everyone around him find a passion for tennis the same way he has. Tristan has been playing since the age of three. When he saw both of his parents playing tennis with his now current coach, and saw how much fun they were having, he wanted to try it himself. He said, “Since then, it’s been a lifelong passion of mine.”  His parents inspire him with their leadership. “I look up to both of my parents because they have honestly guided me to who I am today and will guide me for as long as I live.”
When asked how it feels to hold such an amazing record, he replied “Honestly, it feels like a huge accomplishment knowing that nobody can beat my record. And that it will never be broken. It will be a piece of DODEA European history.” Adding,
““A lot of my inspiration comes from everyone that has helped me over the years.” ”
Off the court, Tristan is passionate about math and science. We asked what he hopes to study after high school. He excitedly talked about majoring in environmental science or meteorology and that after college, his dream job would be either a Meteorologist or Tennis Trainer.
Moving forward, he plans to play D1 tennis and has already been scouted by two great schools: Southern New Hampshire University, a top 50 D2 college, and William Woods University, which ranks 8th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). It’s evident with his drive to improve, that he will succeed in whatever path he chooses.
Tristan has a great attitude stating, “Whenever I loose, I have something to gain. I always, always, always want to improve; not just athletically but also academically.
He told us about a quote that has stuck with him throughout his life, “If one door closes another one opens.” He expanded on how this resonates with him, “If some challenge occurs and you can’t go with your plan A, there will always be plan B. Even if you don’t see it right now, there will always be plan B.”
