KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany -- The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation for U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz was recognized as one of six Army organizations worldwide for outstanding achievement in demonstrating a strong commitment to professional development.
The IMCOM College of Installation Management's Major General Robert M. Joyce School for Family and MWR announced the winners of the FY16 FMWR Exemplary Workforce Development Award in a message June 3.
"Outstanding submissions were received by all Garrisons and AFRC's (Armed Forces Recreation Centers)," wrote Jason Bell, Director, School for Family and MWR and School for Service Culture. "Scoring was very close this year and the panel had their work cut out for them."
The award recipients demonstrated a strategic plan for their organization's professional development; a commitment to completing such development and applying it to improve their organization; a robust Professional Development Program with approved individual development plans (IDPs) and innovative practices to support staff development; a comprehensive employee onboarding program integrated across all levels of the organization; and completions of School for Family and MWR virtual courses.
"This award is really a team award," said the garrison's director of FMWR, Steve Pelletier. "Great credit is given to all the staff that seek and complete professional development, managers that challenge their staff, our team of trainers and training coordinators that track the completion of these trainings, and division chiefs that manage employee IDP's."
The other 2016 winners are Fort Belvoir, Fort Bragg, Fort Knox, USAG Hawaii and AFRC Hale Koa.
The MG Robert M. Joyce School for FMWR is located at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and offers in-residence and distance learning courses to enable garrisons to provide quality of life programs and services by developing and supporting the FMWR workforce through functionally specific training, career planning and performance solutions.
The School has a catalogue of more than 70 courses. Currently, 26 active courses receive college credit recommendations from the American Council on Education (ACE) and graduates are increasingly transferring them to colleges and universities to receive college credits.
