Oktoberfest season is just around the corner and you’re either really excited or just rolled your eyes. You may be over the hype behind it and are looking for something less popularized. Or, you’ve already celebrated Oktoberfest in Germany and want to add a new country to the list.

No matter what you relate to the most, there’s a solution waiting for you in Vienna, Austria! Wiener-Wiesn Fest, also known as the Viennese Oktoberfest, takes place Sept. 26 through Oct. 13 this year.

Upon entering, there will be three large beer tents filled with many people dressed in dirndls and lederhosen, long, wooden tables, schnitzel, pretzels, bratwurst and of course, beer. Gates open each day at 11:30 a.m. just in time to indulge in a hearty lunch. Various activities run throughout the day such as parades and concerts featuring numerous bands.

However, it is said that the party really starts in the night. At 6:30 p.m. enjoy live music from bands playing traditional Austrian drinking songs. Stuff your face with delicious schnitzel and warm pretzels. Then, go ahead and down it with beer. Or, if you prefer wine, the Winzer-Stadls at the fest offer an array of fine wines. Wine lovers, rejoice!

It is free to attend the festival all day Monday and Tuesday. From 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, admission into the festival is free. There are different ticket options you can purchase online that offer great deals such as guaranteed seat reservations in the tents, admission into the “After Party,” a private waiter for dinner (skip the lines!) and access to go between the three massive beer tents!

Although celebrating Oktoberfest in Germany is worthy enough to cross off a bucket list, many people can say they’ve done it. But, how many can say they’ve celebrated Oktoberfest in Austria?
