Cast of Broadway Junior Review (Razz Ma Tazz Theatre)

Youth performers from the Ramstein and Kaiserslautern area were on stage this past weekend revealing the immense talent we have in our community.

The “Broadway Junior Review”, directed by Mandie McFadden La Bell, was a production of 18 Broadway hits compiled for two days of top-notch entertainment at the Razz Ma Tazz Theatre on Ramstein Air Base. Audience interaction was at the center of the performance, with each piece being introduced via a trivia question or unique fact.

Taking interaction to the next level was an audience singalong to “Edelweiss” from the Sound of Music. Lyrics were even in the program, so no one had reason to shy away from belting this Broadway favorite. The enthusiasm was palpable.

The youth cast shone in their variety of talent. Lead, solo performers owned the stage at times, while the ensemble gave audience members the big show experience one expects from a riotous Broadway review. Their expressions were as loud as their lines.

The staging, lights, and elemental sets also added to the Broadway elegance with props and set pieces seamlessly incorporated into roles and movement. The theming continued throughout the theater space, including the lobby where games allowed for more audience fun during intermission.

In fact, fun was the name of the game here. It was apparent that these young performers were having the time of their lives, and that energy kindled the audience. Humor abounded as well, as in “My New Philosophy” from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Many songs had twist endings and comedic additions that filled the space with laughter.

While only on stage for one weekend, the Broadway Junior Review was a hit. I look forward to seeing all of these talented young people in future performances.
