Often funny and sometimes poignant, “Children’s Letters to God” by Razz Ma Tazz Theatre at the Ramstein Community Center is a must-see play for both children and adults. It is a performance that brings audiences back to their childhood to relive the changes, questions, problems, hopes and dreams that come with growing up.
Full of laughter, music and an immensely talented cast, the play is about the events in the lives of children that cause them to ask God questions. As the kids humorously sing “A Simple Holiday Song” we laugh along and are reminded of our differences. When Brett sings about his hat, we glimpse the struggle of his parents’ divorce, and our hearts pull for him.
This heartwarming and nostalgic musical is performed by an all-youth cast of 22, and is directed by Maddie McFadden La Bell. Using a simplified stage and minimal props, La Bell successfully focuses the attention on the kids and their stories. And boy can these children rule a stage!

The actors developed each character personality so well that excessive stage sets, costumes or props would have been a distraction. Iris was cute and lovable, wise for her age, but still just a kid. It was so fun to hear her explain why her turtle Arnold is more than just a pet. On the other end of the spectrum, Kicker would be the perfect dictionary example of an annoying baby brother. He was played with such a funny, big heart that it was difficult to be mad at his stubbornness.
