Baumholder Girl Scouts in front of PX (Baumholder Girl Scouts)

The Baumholder Girl Scouts are back and stronger than ever! After a couple of years with only four active members, our troops are experiencing an exciting period of growth and revitalization. Thanks to a series of successful recruiting events, including the fun filled “Make S’more Friends” event, our troops have expanded to thirty-four registered girls in all and are continuing to grow.

A Sweet Start: “Make S’more Friends” Event

The “Make S’more Friends” event marked a fun and engaging way to welcome new scouts into the fold. The event featured a variety of hands-on activities that not only introduced the girls to the fun of scouting but also fostered friendship and teamwork. Activities included building a catapult to launch marshmallows, making s’mores trail mix, and creating a s’more-themed craft for swaps—all while learning about the many exciting opportunities available through Girl Scouts, such as community service projects and leadership development.

We wanted to create an event where the girls could learn about Girl Scouts in a fun and interactive way. The girls had a blast, and it was a perfect opportunity to show them how scouting is about more than just crafts—it’s about building skills and giving back to the community.

Giving Back: Veterans Day Ceremony

One of the first community service events for our newly expanded Girl Scout Community was the Veterans Day Ceremony, organized by the Baumholder VFW Post 2566 and the Baumholder Middle High School JROTC. The girls played an important role in honoring veterans by handing out poppies to ceremony attendees. The local Cub Scouts, Pack 96, also participated, leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance.

After the ceremony, the Girl Scouts took the opportunity to spread kindness by handing out poppies at the Baumholder Commissary and Shoppette, and some girls even took poppies home to share with veterans in their own neighborhoods. It was a meaningful way for the girls to engage with the community and understand the importance of showing respect and gratitude for those who have served in the military.

Upcoming Events: First Aid and Fire Safety Training

Looking ahead, the Baumholder Girl Scouts are gearing up for another exciting event in partnership with the American Red Cross and the Baumholder Fire Department. This event will allow the girls to earn their Safety Pin or First Aid badge, while also learning vital skills to keep themselves and others safe.

The girls will receive hands-on training from the Baumholder Fire Department, focusing on fire safety and how to properly call for help in an emergency. Additionally, the American Red Cross will teach essential first aid skills, including how to treat minor injuries and prevent and address outdoor injuries and handle more serious situations. The girls will also assemble their own first aid kits and learn how to use the items within them—skills that will serve them well for a lifetime.

We want to ensure that our scouts are well-prepared for any situation, whether they are at home, in school or in the community. This event is not only about earning badges but also about equipping the girls with the knowledge and confidence to take action when it matters most.

The Road Ahead

As the Baumholder Girl Scouts continue to grow, the troop is looking forward to more fun and meaningful events throughout the year. From community service projects to skill-building activities, the girls are gaining the confidence, courage and character that will help them succeed both now and in the future.

The troop is also eager to expand its leadership base, with opportunities for adult volunteers to get involved. Whether it’s helping with events, leading activities, or supporting the troop in other ways, there are plenty of ways for community members to contribute to the Girl Scout mission: “Building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
