In 2016, 98 traffic accidents were reported in the 5-kilometer-long construction zone of A6 in Kaiserslautern. This number is up 46 percent from the previous year. High speed, erratic driving and tailgating were the primary causes of these accidents.
Because of the sharp uptick in accidents, the Westpfalz polizei have reduced the speed limit in the construction zone to 60 km/h. Officials are optimistic that lower speeds will contribute to fewer accidents on that stretch of roadway.
