Drivers with a lead foot may want to consider slowing it down. Beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, speed cameras will be out in force throughout the country — including Bavaria, Hesse/Rhein Main and the Rheinland-Pfalz.

Known as the Blitzer Marathon, this one-day event is designed to increase driver safety and awareness. More than one-third of all fatal traffic accidents in Germany are attributed to speeding. The polizei will be out in force at various stations set up across the country. In Bavaria alone, more than 1,900 speed checks will be implemented.
