With warm sunshine making a more regular appearance, break out the sunscreen and head to downtown Kaiserslautern for some fantastic fun in the sun. From May 19 to 29, the Messeplatz will be transformed into the Lautrer Kerwe, one of the largest folk festivals in the Rheinland-Pfalz.
With plenty of thrill rides for those wanting an adrenaline rush, to the slower-paced carousels and bumper cars for the younger crowd, there is truly something for everyone. Take a ride on the giant Ferris wheel at sunset for a beautiful panorama of the Kaiserslautern area. If the rides have worked up your appetite, grab a savory bratwurst while enjoying the live music and dancing. Or just relax with a delicious brew at the Biergarten. Pick up a unique European souvenir from one of the many local vendors selling handcrafted goods.
The Lautrer Kerwe opens Friday, May 19 and runs through Monday, May 29. Hours are 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. opening day, 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Friday. Be sure to stay for the dazzling fireworks display on opening and closing day at 9:45 p.m. For more information, visit www.kerwe-kl.de.
