Being a new parent is both a joy and a daunting task. As a mom of two, I remember the sheer amazement of holding my little ones for the first time, and discovering that my son has my smile and my daughter has my husband’s curly hair. I also remember the sleepless nights, the misery of teething and temper tantrums that can seem endless. Compound all of that with moving overseas, and you’ve got a quick recipe for a meltdown.

Thankfully, you’ve got technology to help you through. What started as a small group on Facebook, KMC Babies of 2017 has evolved into a great resource for new parents and families. According to group administrator SSgt. Frances Christian, anyone who is currently pregnant, has recently had a baby, in need of lactation help, is in the process of moving to the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC) while pregnant or with little ones are welcome to join. The group consists of military spouses, active-duty and reserve servicemembers, civilians and contractors, lactation consultants, doulas and, of course, photographers to capture precious moments.

Christian adds, “It gives an opportunity for everyone to socialize for a bit and discuss different topics, while little ones get fresh air and those who have toddlers or older kids can bring them along to play and meet others. It really has become a big support group for most who have struggled being in a foreign country far from family and friends.”

The group has more than 570 members online, and meet ups are scheduled weekly at either Donnelly Park on Ramstein Air Base or the Landstuhl Library. For more information or to join the group, visit their Facebook page.
