Here are a few tips to make mailing your holiday packages easier, as well as new seasonal hours at area post offices beginning Nov. 19:
“Click and Ship”Cut down your wait times by using the “Click and Ship” option through USPS.com. Simply fill out your customs form and pay for your packages online. When you bring your package to the post office, you can hop into the Pre-paid Express line. They’ll scan your package, hand you a receipt and you’ll be on your way!
Fill out all forms ahead of timeYou can fill out customs forms online, print them out and bring them with you. Remember, every package must have a customs form when shipping.
Leave the Kinder eggs behindDon't mail any prohibited items, including Kinder eggs, aerosol cans and alcohol.
Weigh carefullyUse flat-rate priority boxes when you can. These are often less expensive and will get your package to its destination quickly. Please note that there is a 70-pound weigh limit on packages. Also, do not return items using priority boxes.
Check your mail, or it may get returnedPlease be sure to check your mail as often as you can — at least twice a week. You will be notified of packages every 5 days. If you have not picked up a package waiting for you within 20 days, it will be returned to sender. If you’re planning on leaving town for more than a week, put your mail on hold.
