German Wine Harvest Festival

Oct. 2-15, Neustadt an der Weinstraße

Neustadt celebrates its version of Thanksgiving with a festival replete with amusement rides and the wines and culinary specialties of the Palatinate. The “wine village” in the heart of town offers the fizzy new wine known as Federweißer and live music. The largest winemaker’s parade in all Germany takes place on Oct. 14. A fireworks display set to music closes festivities on Oct. 15.

ChocolART

Dec. 4-9, Tübingen

Germany’s biggest festival dedicated to chocolate celebrates cocoa-based treats with a program including chocolate-themed art, exhibitions, cooking classes, workshops and more. At the market place, over 100 chocolatiers and manufacturers sell their tasty treats just in time for the coming holidays. Children have the chance to make their very own candy bar and a label to go with it. At night, the half-timbered facades of the buildings of the Old Town are brought to life through illuminations.
