On March 2, 2011, Airman 1st Class Zachary Cuddeback was making a routine run to Frankfurt International Airport. Assigned to drive fellow airmen arriving from RAF Lakenheath to Ramstein Air Base, his life was tragically cut short. He and Senior Airman Nick Alden were killed when an armed radical boarded the bus he was driving and opened fire. Two airmen were also wounded in the attack. An avid hockey enthusiast, Cuddeback was known for his zest for life and optimistic personality.
Wanting to recognize and honor the fallen airman, friends and co-workers organized the A1C Zachary Cuddeback Memorial 5K Run. Now in its 7th year, the run will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3 at the Southside Fitness Center on Ramstein. Pre-registration is held Tuesdays and Thursdays at the KMCC from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can also register the morning of the run beginning at 7 a.m. The first 200 registrants will receive a t-shirt. For any questions or more information contact 480-3944 or 480-2231.
