Scotland is hands down one of the most beautiful countries in the world. From the highlands to the isles and lochs, you’ll be amazed that one country can be so ruggedly breath-taking. While there is much to do and see in Scotland, sometimes an off-the-beaten-path adventure is exactly what you need. If that’s the case, travel to the Isle of Arran. This small but memorable island has a little something for everyone!
1. Brodick Castle
If you’re looking to get your history fix, you can visit the castle once inhabited by the Dukes of Hamilton! Built in 1510, this is definitely not one of Scotland’s oldest castles, but it is completely decorated as the last inhabitants left it. And, I don’t want to give too much away, but there’s some surprising twist and turns that might give you a bit of a fright!
2. Country Garden
Located on the grounds of the castle, this garden will have you walking and winding down paths lined with some of the most beautiful flowers and plants you’ve ever seen. If you’re a real plantsman/plantswoman you’ll be pleased to know that all the growth is marked with scientific names and factoids! On your way out of the castle grounds, don't forget to take a peek at some of the authentic highland "coos"!
3. Isle of Arran Distillery
When in Scotland, right? The only distillery on the island offers daily tours and tastings you won’t want to miss! The Isle of Arran’s water source comes from Loch na Davie and they distill their spirit twice (2x wash still and 2x spirit still). But if the details aren’t important to you that’s okay too! Just pack your drinking pants!
4. Isle of Arran Brewery
If you’re not ready for the party to end, then head on over to the Isle of Arran Brewery. After a day traveling around the island, there’s nothing better than a cold brew! With plenty of outdoor seating, choose a nice day to sit outside and enjoy the view. You can take home some of the local brew to share with your buddies or to enjoy again for yourself if you like.
5. Machrie Moor Stone Circles
Traced back to the Neolithic/Early Bronze age this stone ellipse will give you some serious Outlander vibes. And while, no, these stones won’t transport you into the arms of an extremely handsome red-headed Scotsman, these stones will feel eerily magical. And hey, it’s worth is try.

6. Arran Creamery Cheese Shop
To every lover of the cheese plate, I call for your attention! Delight your dairy desires with a trip to the local creamery and cheese shop! This cheese shop crafts all their cheese by hand using traditional methods passed down through generations. All the milk comes from local farms, and there’s just nothing better than some amazing cheese. Am I right, or am I right?

While it’s not one of Scotland’s most well-known places to visit, I can promise you, if you go to the Isle of Arran you’ll come back bragging about it too!
