The Isle of Skye is one of the most magical places on earth. One visit was enough to convince me that everything said about the wild Scottish Highlands is true. The lush terrain sparkles with history, and is simply stunning in every sense imaginable. The Isle of Skye is second only to the bustling metropolis of Edinburgh as the top tourist destination in the country of Scotland. That's one of the many reasons it's important to reserve accommodation in a local bed and breakfast or hotel far ahead of your expected arrival. There are very limited rooms due to the lack of hotels and it can be difficult to find places to stay, especially during peak seasons.

The island is speckled with history of all kinds. Everything from dinosaur fossils to medieval castles, shining lochs and remnants of Jacobite clan warfare adorn the 50-mile long island . A stop that shouldn't be missed is the Museum of Island Life, which portrays the way the island was lived upon for hundreds of years by the locals. Aside from the incredible wildlife on display throughout the untamed island, cities like Portree offer artisanal treats and local crafts that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

As far as cuisine, I could not recommend the seafood more. Specifically, the Scottish mussels are incredible. Because of the island’s location, the seafood is fresh and delicious nearly anywhere on Skye. The Isle of Skye has something to attract every kind of tourist. So far from the mainland, it's like another world. It's a must stop if you're in the U.K. at all during your time in Europe.
