Situated in the Cellina Gorge, the Dint Trail is suitable for different skill levels and time constraints. Make amazing memories by soaking in the jaw-dropping views of Lake Barcis. Hike the trails surrounding the lake to get the most scenic panoramas of the expansive turquoise waters that comprise the lake. You can do all of this by going to the foot of the Friulian Dolomites where you will find Lago di Barcis, located a short 30-minute drive north of Aviano Air Base.

How to Get There

There are a few different hikes around Lake Barcis, but the Dint Trail provides the best views. When looking at Lake Barcis on a map, these trails are on the southeastern corner of the lake. If you type “Sentiero del Dint” into Google Maps, the trail will come up.

For parking, look for the cafe named “Osteria Ponte Antoi” to the right of the trail. In front of this cafe, is a free parking lot (although there is also street parking near the trail entrance). The drive from Aviano is easy and scenic with views of the towering mountains and crystal-clear streams.

Dint Trail

There is a map right at the trailhead that outlines the various routes you can choose, each with its own unique point of interest labeled 1-7. Luckily, one of the best views is at stop one. Take a picture of this map before setting off so that you have a guide.

The journey to marker one is a simple stroll through mossy woods and rock structures. In about 10 minutes, you will reach the observation deck. Featuring a glass bottom, it can be unnerving to walk across and out past the mountain. For the brave-hearted, look down and see the gorgeous waters of the canyon below. If not, simply look outwards towards Lake Barcis. The jagged, sometimes snowy peaks of the surrounding hills slope gently towards the shoreline of the turquoise lake. The crystal clear waters perfectly reflect the blue sky, deep green trees and white fluffy clouds above. It’s like something from a picture book.

The many trails within this one location makes it a location you can revisit again and again. Bring your pup along so that they can enjoy the views too! And as always, only do what is within your skill level. The map includes many warnings about the risks of these trails and what’s prohibited. Please read these before embarking on your hike.
