Cinque Terre, or “Five Lands” is a perfectly named UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area located along Ligurian Coast of northwestern Italy is made up of five fishing villages: Corniglia, Manarola, Monterosso al Mare, Riomaggiore and Vernazza.

This unique landscape entices a surplus of visitors each year to hike through the national park and admire the pastel-colored homes nestled into the cliffside and ravines. While you can walk the entire route in one day (approximately six hours), taking your time is recommended to soak in all the beautiful area has to offer, including tasting the local cliffside-made wine that was once popular with royalty during renaissance times. Each of the five villages has something different to offer, from Monterroso’s beaches and lemon groves to Riomaggiore’s sunset views.

When traveling to Cinque Terre it is best to leave your vehicle behind as the roads are difficult to navigate and parking is limited. Trains are the best way to get to the villages and from there, hiking is the best way to experience them. Luckily, there are two types of passes that the Cinque Terre National Park offers visitors to make both experiences smooth.

1. Cinque Terre Trekking Card

This card grants access to the park’s paid hiking trails, including the famous Sentiero Azzurro (Blue Path), which connects the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. It also includes:

  • Unlimited use of ATC buses within the villages

  • Free entry to restrooms in railway stations

  • Guided tours (subject to scheduling and availability)

2. Cinque Terre Treno MS Card

This pass includes all the benefits of the Trekking Card plus unlimited second-class train travel on regional trains between Levanto and La Spezia (excluding high-speed or intercity trains).

Pricing and Fare Categories

The cost of the Cinque Terre Treno MS Card varies, depending on:

  1. Time Period (Low, Medium, or High Affluence)

  2. Duration (1-day, 2-day, or 3-day pass)
