Moving to Germany has been a wonderful and exciting experience. However, it seemed like there were no conventions or events to revel in the fandom with fellow lovers of movies, anime, comic books and other popular culture. Apparently, I was wrong. If you have had your fill of beer, wine, volk and fall fests, we’ve got you covered.

Comic and Manga Convention: Oct. 1: Hamburg | Featuring comic book authors, illustrators, artists and cosplay at the “largest” comic and manga convention in northern Germany.

MagicCon: Oct. 6-7: Bonn | Featuring special guests from The Hobbit and Vikings as well as other television shows and movies, workshops, lectures, photo ops, a cosplay catwalk and special events at this fantasy and mystery convention.

Annotopia: Oct. 1-3: Lüdinghausen | Featuring fantasy-themed markets, culinary treats, Vikings, pirates, medieval knights, artisan crafts, music and entertainment.

International Game Days: Oct. 6-9: Essen | Dress up as your favorite character and go to the “world's largest public fair for games” and try over 1,000 games from all over the globe as well as check out some comics and toys.

Connichi: Oct. 7-9: Kassel | Featuring film screenings, workshops, lectures, an art contest, entertainment, cosplay contest and market at “Germany's largest volunteer anime and manga convention.”

Comic and Manga Convention: Oct. 15: Düsseldorf | Featuring comics, manga, “artist avenue,” and dealers.

Manga and Entertainment Expo: Oct. 21-23: Berlin | Featuring a Japanese garden, special guests, dealer jungle, artist alley, Bubble Tea, games-room, cosplay, three event stages and competitions.

PlayCon: Oct. 22-23: Trier | Featuring interactive gaming experience for those into indie games, esports, stage acts and gaming stations.

SaarCon: Oct. 29-30: Saarbrücken | Featuring card games, board games, roleplaying games, miniature games, shopping opportunities and cosplay contest.

Due to ever-changing regulations, make sure you check the website before traveling for an event. Also, inclusion of an event on the list is not an endorsement for the authenticity or quality of the event.
