Situated in the vineyard-dotted slopes of France’s Bordeaux region, a luscious city of wine awaits. Part museum, part wine-tasting, France’s La Cité du Vin is a wine metropolis for oenophiles. The doors of this shimmering, eight-storied decanter-shaped masterpiece opened less than a year ago, and it has been gaining popularity ever since.
In a building designed to evoke the image of wine swirling in a glass, wine-lovers can explore over 19 sections discussing all things wine, including technologically impressive guides to the nine major wine regions – via holograms, touch-screens and cinema stations, along with a top-floor wine tasting bar and 360-degree observation deck.
There are even high-tech aroma stations where you can pump air into a glass dome that mimics the nose of the different types of wines, such as lemon peel, apple, caramel, leather and more.
Visitors can book a guided vineyard tour to meet the winegrowers and explore the delicious wine cellars in the Bordeaux region (there are over 7,000 in the area) or kick back and relax on the delightful oenological cruise.
Save time by buying tickets online, with several ticket-pairing options and special offers found directly on La Cité du Vin’s website.
