Vogelweh Elementary School students with Spring edition of Dandelions (Katie Wells )
Our team from Stars and Stripes Europe recently visited Vogelweh Elementary School, where we got to meet some really cool kids and hear feedback on our kids magazine “Dandelions.” To our surprise some of the students we spoke with create their own biweekly newspaper, “From the Nest.” They were excited to share a few copies with us and plenty of wonderful ideas. So far, these young journalists have written stories about storms, secret ocean life and the California wildfires.
“From the Nest” a newspaper written by VES students (Katie Wells)
When asked “If you were a writer or designer for Stars and Stripes Europe what would you write about or create?” these ambitious students asked us to cover topics like big landmarks, the history of video games (yes that includes Minecraft and Fortnite), recipes and stories about local legends around Europe. Another amazing class of 5th graders we visited with wanted to learn more about K-pop, sea creatures and coral reefs as well as read fairy tales with knights and dragons. They had fun suggestions like adding more room in the magazine for drawing.

For our most recent edition, Dandelions Spring 2025, we used kid’s suggestions for more about LEGO®s and old-timey games, animals and the Middle Ages, and we hope we delivered! We love hearing back from our young readers and can’t wait to feature more of their ideas from our last couple of visits in future editions.
