EUROPE

Trying to entertain your kids? Going on European trips with them? Make some of these European-inspired crafts with your children to get their minds curious about the cultures around them.

Venetian Masks

Venetian masks are a classic image of Italy. Let your kids prance around a masquerade party with their own masks. You will need:

  • Wooden skewers

  • Cardboard

  • Scissors

  • Paint

  • Glitters/gems

  • Glue

Cut out a mask shape from the cardboard. Use paints to decorate the mask and add glitters or gems to add sparkle. When it is dry, glue a wooden skewer on the back of one side of the mask to create a handle.

Monet Inspired Painting

Can’t travel to France to visit the gardens that inspired Claude Monet’s paintings? Create a messy home-made painting with 3-D lily pads. You will need:

  • Green and blue finger paints

  • Paper plate

  • Green, white, pink cupcake liners

  • Glue

Use blue and green paint to paint the paper plate to resemble water. Cut a triangle out of the green cupcake holders to resemble a lily pad and glue down to the dried paper plate. Cut petals out of the white and pink cupcake holders and trim the edges to fit inside the green cupcake holders. Crinkle the ‘flowers’ and glue them onto the ‘lily pad.’

Alpine Hat

Make this Alpine hat with your children to explore Germany, Austria and Switzerland in style. You will need:

  • Colored construction paper

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Feathers

Cut green construction paper into a 19 x 17-inch rectangle. Fold the paper in half. Leaving 1.5 inches at the bottom, fold the top of the folds to meet in the center. Fold the bottom flaps up. Tuck in the ends that stick out and glue them down. Cut out an Edelweiss flower from the white and yellow construction paper. Glue the flower and a feather to the side of the hat.

Spend time with your kiddos talking about Europe while you help them make these crafts. Get creative with the decorations and have fun!
