Did you know that playgrounds can be more than just slides and swings? Here are three types of extreme playgrounds you can visit in Europe.
A “Bauspielplatz” in Germany is a place where kids can build with wood, nails, saws and hammers. They can make fires or paint graffiti. They can also climb walls and trees.
You can play at one in the city of Köln at the Friedenspark. It’s connected to an old fort. The playground is nicknamed the Baui and parents aren’t allowed inside!

These playgrounds are built high in the Alps mountains. They use nature as part of the play. There may be long slides down hills or playhouses in grassy meadows. Sometimes you need to hike a little way between each play area.
At the Villaggio delle Marmotte playground in Italy, you can even see the local colony of marmots!

Big wooden castles, swinging bridges and ropes to climb make an adventure playground really fun. They are perfect for playing hide-and-seek. Many are in forests and have small ropes courses between the trees.
