While most of our friends and loved ones back in the States grumbled their way through the spring time change on March 12, those of us in Europe were able to procrastinate just a little longer. That changes this weekend.
On March 26 at 2 a.m., clocks in the U.K. and the rest of Europe spring forward an hour for Daylight Saving Time (DST). Originally designed to help conserve coal usage during World War I, the time change became widely adopted following World War II. Unfortunately, there is no international standard when it comes to the DST date — dates are decided upon by individual governments or, in the case of Europe, the European Union (EU).
Although we lose an hour of sleep this weekend, at least we gain a few hours of daylight to enjoy all the area has to offer.
