Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany -- The Spangdahlem Tax Center opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. The tax center offers a free service to assist individuals with basic federal and state income tax returns.
Tax returns will be prepared by Internal Revenue Service certified volunteers at the center until Thursday, June 15. Clients will be served by appointment only, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Being stationed overseas members are allowed an automatic two-month extension to file a return and pay any amount due without requesting an extension. In order to use this extension, the member must attach a statement to your return explaining what qualified you for the extension. Providing a copy of military orders would be proof of serving overseas.
The tax center is located on Arnold Blvd., Building 125, on the first floor.
Eligible clients include military members E-1 through E-5 only.
“I think it’s a great service they provide and it’s very convenient to use,” said Staff Sgt. Robert Camacho, 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron commander support staff.
The tax center may not be able to assist individuals who have extensive investments, more than one rental property or other complex tax issues.
To help out Airmen at geographically separated units the tax center will open one weekend per month or extend hours of operation depending on the demand of GSU members.
“It’s really awesome to open this tax center for E-5 and below,” said Staff Sgt. Brittany Recob, 52nd Fighter Wing Staff Judge Advocate NCO in-charge of general law and tax center. “It’s truly an Airmen helping Airmen concept.”
The following documents are required for tax center appointments: identification card; last year's tax return; social security cards for everyone who will be listed on the return; all form W-2s, 1098s, 1099s and 1095s from the past year; information on any other income; information for any tax deductions or credits; and the identification number for child care providers.
