Less than two weeks after a 500-pound World War II-era ordnance was discovered and defused in an Einsiedlerhof construction area, another bomb has been discovered in the same vicinity. Officials will be cordoning off the area, with evacuations and disposal taking place on Sunday, April 9.

The 250-kilogram bomb will be defused on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Nearby residents are asked to evacuate no later than 10 a.m. Local polizei will be checking homes to ensure everyone has evacuated the area. They anticipate the defusion and removal to be completed by noon.

According to Stadt Kaiserslautern, "All traffic participants are reminded that the Kaiserstraße from the junction Jacob-Pfeiffer-Straße until after the junction in the Haderwald from 10 clock until the end of the defuse in both directions for the transit traffic will be blocked." Traffic diversion towards Kaiserslautern will be via the A6 and the Opel road. All inbound traffic to Vogelweh and Pulaski Barracks will enter through the Kapaun Gate. All outbound traffic will exit using the Shoppette/Gas Station exit, right turn only. The Pulaski Barracks Gate (near McDonald's) will be closed during this period. The following areas are affected:

* The industrial area of Haderwald.* Parts of the wooded area behind Haderwald, in the direction of the Rod and Gun Club* L395 adjacent to Nick's Chicken in the eastbound direction until Main Drive, Vogelweh* Parts of the German housing area in Einsiedlerhof to Toyota World* Parts of Opel industrial area

During WWII, more than 60 percent of the Kaiserslautern area was destroyed in Allied bombing campaigns. It is not uncommon for crews to uncover these ordinances during construction digs.
