London knows how to throw down when it comes to street festivals. During most summers, the South Bank of the River Thames is transformed into a menagerie of food, art, theater, dancing and music with the Underbelly Festival. Like most festivals and events this year, Underbelly was unable to take place. However, rather than roll over and admit defeat, organizers of the fest decided to try their hand at something a little different — StreetEat.

The initial project popped up July 24, 2020 on the South Bank. The concept is simple: good food, cold drinks and great music all while social distancing, of course. Food trucks from around the city pop up near Gabriel’s Wharf offering tasty food from around the globe. Dive into sweet mini-doughnuts, savory falafel or a burrito bursting at the seam. Pair it with some local brews or specialty summer drinks and you’ve got a delicious night out. Customers can grab and go or sit in one of the appropriately spaced pods.

StreetEat at the South Bank runs through Oct. 10, with one other location at Victoria Park (which ends on Aug. 31). The festival goes from noon to 9 p.m., seven days a week. Admission is free but be sure to follow social distancing guidelines and bring a face covering just in case. For more information, visit www.underbellyfestival.com.
