With the school year rapidly approaching, many families are taking advantage of the last free moments before alarm clocks and school bells dictate the schedule. Maybe a relaxing day by the lake is what you’ve got in mind. If you’re planning on spending time at Gelterswoog, south of Kaiserslautern, be prepared for an invasion of ducks — rubber ducks.
On Sunday, Aug. 20, the Lautrer Entennrennen will storm the shores of this otherwise serene and picturesque picnic spot. Thousands of bright yellow plastic ducks will race along the shores of Gelterswoog. Participants can purchase a starting card with a unique number that corresponds to one of the ducks. Winners will be announced at the end of the races. Prizes include a gift voucher to Globus valued at 1,000 euros, an overnight rendezvous in Berlin for two, and many more.
Feeling lucky? Purchase your starting card for 2.50 euros at one of the sales outlets on Thursday, Aug. 17, or on the day of the event at the beach until 2 p.m. Races begin at 3 p.m.
