EUROPE

In 1475, Duke Georg of Landshut took young Hedwig, a Polish princess, as his bride. This union was celebrated and rejoiced throughout Europe, with many noblemen declaring the marriage one of divine providence. The bridal procession spilled into the streets of Landshut, with several days of pageantry, feasting, dancing and jousting.

Today, this anniversary is marked every four years. For four weeks, more than 2,000 participants reenact the wedding and subsequent celebration. Tour through and laugh along at the comedy of camp life in the Middle Ages, or enjoy a pint at the tavern. Test your swordsmanship at the fencing school. Visitors can also enjoy a medieval market, exciting knightly jousts, minstrels performing lively tunes and, of course, plenty of food and drink.

The Landshuter Hochzeit opens Friday, June 30 and runs through Sunday, July 23. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.landshuter-hochzeit.de.
