Tattoos have been a part of civilization for thousands of years — as early as 5,200 B.C. In many cultures, these skin markings symbolize a right of passage, belonging to a certain tribe, or are just beautiful living masterpieces. While the primitive methods of tattooing have evolved (think needles rather than stone chisels), the interest in tattoos remains.

If you’re wanting to add to your current tattoo collection, or are feeling brave enough for your first one, check out the Tattoo and Art Messe in Bad Kreuznach April 8-9. Studios and artists from around Germany will be on hand for tattoos, piercings and more. There will vendors selling clothes and jewelry, as well as live music and performances.

Need a little liquid bravery before getting your ink, or are you more of a foodie than a tattoo person? Try a cold beverage and delicious eats at the street food festival, and make it an all-day event! Local food trucks will be lining the streets with tasty one-of-a-kind regional specialties.

The Tattoo and Art Messe opens from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 8, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 9. Entry is 12 euros per person. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/tattoomesserheinland.
