The “Night That Creates Knowledge” or Nacht, die Wissen Schafft is an open-door free event at research institutes across Kaiserslautern.
It gives you the chance to see what is happening in the world of science here in our local community. There will be demonstrations and interactive experiences available at 10 different places in the city, all at no cost to visitors.
Food and beverages will also be available for purchase at a variety of the sites as well as music and performances, so you can make a night of it.
The event begins at 6p.m. at 42Kaiserslautern, while most demonstrations at the research sites run from 7 to 11 p.m. A final party, fire show and light show take place at RPTU, building 28. Note that events will take place in German (but science speaks its own language).
Visit the Nacht, die Wissen Schafft website (in German) or the Kaiserslautern city App for the entire program and to see what’s on at each facility and where they are all located on a map.
The 42Kaiserslautern is a great place to start; this facility is open year-round with exhibits and workshops that presents sustainable technology and innovation in Kaiserslautern. It is located at Eisenbahnstrasse 42, roughly halfway between the old town and the train station. From there, free shuttle busses will take participants to the other sites.
The University of Applied Sciences, or Hochschule, in Kaiserslautern has numerous interactive spaces where you can learn about new technology and it’s everyday applications. Try VR dissection, sit in the driving simulator, watch all kinds of robots and experience how technology can help with sleep, plus lots more.
Across town at the Rhineland-Pfälz Technical University (RPTU), even more science is on display. Between chemistry experiments, a kid’s research station, DNA studies, robotics and more STEM of all kinds, there is something here for everyone.
Seven more research organizations line Tripstadtstrasse north of RPTU, each with their own specialty on display for the public. From using art in technology, AI product development and experimental software to unique materials science and robots, these businesses are at the forefront of bringing science to consumers.
