The Kaiserslautern High School (KHS) Robotics team has qualified for the 2025 FIRST® Championship where they will compete in the FIRST® Tech Challenge.
The internationally-recognized championship takes place in Houston, Texas from April 16 – 19, 2025. The KHS Robotics team has the honor of being one of only two teams selected that will be representing DoDEA Europe at the championship.
However, DoDEA does not provide funding for travel to the competition. Students on the team, parents and their coach, teacher John Smith are looking to their community for help in meeting the team’s financial goals.
They need to raise $18,000 to provide airfare, lodging and transportation for the entire team and their robot!
You can help the KHS Robotics team by contributing donations via their GoFundMe page.
In order to qualify for the championship, the KHS Robotics team worked to design, construct and test a robot earning them a spot at this prestigious event. Beginning in September when the FIRST® Tech Challenge was announced, the team spent months tackling the challenge of learning to build, program and control their robot.
The hard work paid off. These students earned this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity through teamwork and dedication to robotics and engineering. They look forward to competing and sharing their STEM skills and their military community with the world.
Robotics competitions like the FIRST® Championship provide students with tangible ways to utilize STEM skills, gain experience with engineering, innovate, build community and gain confidence. Participating on the KHS Robotics team has given these local military-connected teens the opportunity to hone skills in a way that may not otherwise have been possible.
