The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) instructors and cadets of Kaiserslautern High School in Kaiserslautern, Germany earned an overall unit assessment score of “Exceeds Standards," which is the highest rating attainable, during their evaluation in March.

Lt. Col. (Ret) William J. Conley and MSgt (Ret) Donald J. Cruz created a dynamic and supportive learning environment coupled with an excellent community outreach. The outstanding leadership provided by the program's instructors continually makes JROTC one of the preeminent education programs in the KMCC. Cadets at the school consistently perform exceptionally well, accomplishing their unit goals, while also having an incredibly positive impact on the school and community at large. The Kaiserslautern High School Air Force ROTC citizenship program is so clearly embodied by our cadets that there are few things within the school community that do not benefit from the support of our JROTC. The Raider Nation is proud of our cadets, instructors, and the excellent program they continually maintain.

Air Force Col. Johnny McGonigal, director of the AFJROTC, said, "The cadets were very impressive and displayed exemplary pride in their unit. Your continuing strong support of the unit has contributed greatly to its success and is greatly appreciated." He continued, saying, "I would also like to recognize the unwavering dedication of your AFJROTC instructors. Achieving an “Exceeds Standards” rating is no small feat; it takes a team effort and lots of hard work. Both attributes were evident throughout the visit. Lt. Col. (Ret) William J. Conley and MSgt (Ret) Donald J. Cruz are clearly invested in the leadership and character development of their cadets, providing an unsurpassed level of mentorship and guidance on a daily basis. Their program defines the term “successful unit” and established the benchmark for others to follow!"
