Germany is well-known as one of the leading countries in the world for soccer (fußball) development, and it can be very confusing ground to navigate for American servicemembers when they move to the Kaiserslautern Military Community (KMC). However, that process has gotten a lot easier thanks to the KMC District Soccer Club. Through their association with United States Youth Soccer (USYS), they are the only club in the region that can provide all DoD Dependents, from the age of 6 to adult, the opportunity to play on teams made up of all American players in the Deutsche Fußball-Bund (DFB). These American teams play against German clubs in German villages, throughout the year.

KMC District trains players at all skill levels and offers both recreational and competitive teams. These teams have been faring really well in the DFB. In 2019, the U15 girls team became the first all American team to win a division in the DFB. This past season, the men’s team finished fifth in the standings, just a few points outside of league promotion. This amazing progress by the KMC District teams is in large part due to the club’s association with ProSoc Academy, a German Academy that provides training services for KMC District, with coaches that are professionally licensed, fluent in English and come from all over Europe and the United States.

KMC District players also play in tournaments throughout Europe and are given the opportunity to try out for the U.S. Olympic Development Program-Europe Team (ODP). Successful players then participate in multiple training camps throughout the year, in various European locations, and have the opportunity to try out for the U.S. National youth teams. In addition to KMC District Soccer Club, similar clubs associated with USYS and ProSoc Academy now exist in Weisbaden, Stuttgart, Bavaria and Italy. The German soccer season runs from August through June, but American players can join KMC District at any time during the year. More information, including registration details, can be found on their website usyskmc.org and on their Facebook page.
