You may notice that cops and their mobile speed cameras aren’t as prevalent during certain times of the year. Well, it’s that time again. The ‘blitzmarathon’ is back to catch speeders. For the next 24 hours, drivers that have the urge to speed may want to think twice. The Rheinland-Pfalz area is among others that are participating in this year’s speed marathon.
If you’ve been living in Germany for some time, the speed cameras are a daily sight. Whether disguised as a van parked on the side of the road or casually posted up in a construction site, they’re there to keep our roads safe by deterring speeding through residential neighborhoods, schools and construction sites. But drivers beware, these cameras can also appear in rural areas as well. The blitzmarathon campaign is put in place to educate drivers on the dangers of speeding. If caught speeding, you could be hit with a hefty fine, have points taken off your license and can even result in suspension of driving privileges for up to three months. The following areas are known controlled areas:
Frankenthal
Kaiserslautern
Koblenz
Ludwigshafen am Rhein
Mainz
Neustadt an der Weinstrasse
Neuwied
Speyer
Trier
Worms
Drive safe!
