Should you happen to be out driving through the beautiful Rheingau wine-growing region this weekend, you stand a good chance of seeing more action than just the winemaker and his helpers busily harvesting the now-ripe grapes.

On both Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 25 and 26, participants in the Wiesbaden Classic Automobile Rally will be taking their painstakingly restored vehicles out for a spin. As they will be passing through checkpoints along a set route, it's possible to consult their schedule and plan an encounter, rather than leaving the matter to chance. See https://hmsc.de/rallye/oldtimer-rallye for details.

Better yet, plan to drop by Wiesbaden's Kurhaus and the surrounding park on Sunday, where these breath-taking classic cars and their well-dressed owners will be proudly strutting their stuff as participants in the "Concourse of Elegance." About 100 cars have been entered into the rally in recent years, meaning there’s more than enough chrome and gleaming paint jobs to go around.

Fans of Porsches have another good reason to turn out for this annual rally and its side events. A special exhibition titled "70 Years Porsche Time Race" is a display of a private collection of 14 356/911 model Porsche convertibles, all of which were manufactured between the years 1950 and 2020. All cars are in their original condition or have undergone restoration. The cars may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Entry to the exhibition and viewing the Concourse of Elegance is free of charge.
