Loud, pulsating drumbeats, bawdy cheering and plenty of water shenanigans will ensue Saturday, Sept. 7 along the scenic riverbanks in the historic center of Cambridge. Beginning at 9 a.m., brightly colored dragon boats filled with eager participants will compete for fastest times, most amount of money raised and, of course, best-dressed team at the 15th annual Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival. Held each year to benefit the Addenbrooke Charitable Trust, more than 40 teams of up to 10 people will compete for the top prize. Each team will take part in at least three races, along a 200-meters-long course on the River Cam.
This family-friendly event features plenty of live music and entertainment, plus lots of activities for the kids between the races. Stop by one of the many food stalls featuring local haunts from the Cambridge area. Admission is free, but be sure to bring your sunscreen and come early for the best viewing spots.
