Ulm's Christmas market faces the majestic Minster (or Münster), which has the world's tallest church tower at just over 160 meters tall. Ulm is also home to the world-famous Steiff teddy bear, a great holiday gift for your little ones.

Christmas market dates: Nov. 25-Dec. 22, 2019

Location: Münsterplatz

Helpful hints: It is well over 700 steps up, but the view is spectacular from the church tower; it's open during the Christmas market from 10:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The nearest parking garage is at the Rathaus on Neue Straße, and there's a tasty sushi restaurant, Sushi Lounge, next door.

Beyond the market: The old Fisherman's Quarter transports visitors to the Middle Ages with narrow cobblestoned streets, footbridges over canals and lots of leaning half-timbered houses. Look for the Schiefes Haus, a hotel named the most crooked house in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

The nearby Wiblingen Monastery has one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, a stunning Rococo masterpiece with frescos, sculptures and plenty of gilded trim.
