On April 22, 2024 (Earth Day), the Ramstein Nature Trail opened. Located on the northern end of Michigan Boulevard on Ramstein Air Base, the path contains 14 educational stops. Each stop focuses on different animals, plants and other wildlife. The way also includes a bridge crossing.
The trail is very neat and makes for a great weekend activity for families. If you plan a visit, expect to see the stunning woods, while learning about the wildlife in the area. The path is around one mile, however, if you take a shorter loop, it will be around a half mile.
Parking is available on either end of the trail. In addition, the trail links to the Air Force Running Trail, making it perfect for both short walks or longer treks. Along the way, there are clear markings of the trail and any intersections with other trails. There is a map at the beginning of the walk as well, making it easy to traverse and enjoy the scenery without having to worry about whether or not you are still on the trail. You can also view a few bat boxes, which were an Eagle Scout project by a member of the local community.
For kids, the educational experience stands out due to its accessibility and learning encounters. The educational panels are at a lower height to accommodate younger users and feature animals such as the deer and squirrel and plants including the trees that are in the area. Overall, the experience is highly relaxing as well as being a learning opportunity. It makes a great weekend activity or school trip. The Ramstein Nature Trail is a must visit for anyone in the KMC area.
