Though fall has certainly arrived for most of Europe, there are still several countries that are soaking up the sun and warmer temperatures. Don’t write off a beach adventure just because the temps have dropped into the 50s where you live. Consider these three beach locations for your upcoming Columbus Day long weekend.
The inviting waters of Kos.
Kos, Greece
The island of Kos is the perfect location to swim in the ocean and lay in the sun while admiring the stunning blue waters of the Aegean Sea. Consider going to Kardamaina and staying in an all-inclusive resort and not having to worry about driving anywhere or finding a restaurant! The water is still plenty warm enough for swimming, even in the fall.

Ksamil, Albania
Located on the Albanian Riviera, this beach area has a turquoise bay for swimming that includes three small islands. The sandy beaches, sparkling water and fresh seafood create a paradise that draws in tourists from all over Europe. July - August is high season, but Sept. - Nov. is the perfect time to enjoy the area without the crowds. If you want to get away from the beach for a while, head to the UNESCO site at Butrint. Butrint once belonged to the Greeks and is now an ancient city you can explore. It is one of the most important archeological sites in Albania.
Polignano a Mare village in Bari.
Bari, Italy
Families will enjoy the sandy beach of Porto Cavallo, next to the new marina in Polignano a Mare. If you’re looking for more of an adventure, head to some of the grottos and coves. Cala Paura is one such cove that serves up fried fish at the trattoria by the beach. If you want to hit the most famous beach in Bari, head to Pane e Pomodoro. Regardless of which beach you end up on, you are sure to be stunned by the beautiful coastline and crystal clear sea.
If you just can’t stand the thought of letting go of summer yet, plan a trip to one of these amazing locations in October. The water is still warm, the sun is shining and the beach is calling!
