Zurich ()

When you think of luxury, Switzerland might not be the first country to come to mind; however, that’s surely not the case! Zurich is one of the world’s most expensive cities, known for its luxurious lifestyles, swanky shopping opportunities and delectable chocolates. Though it’s not the actual capital of Switzerland, Zurich is the largest city and financial capital, so you know there are beaucoup bucks here. Save up some change and get ready to have a fabulous time in Zurich!

Part of the city’s charm is its location. Nestled on Lake Zurich with the surrounding Swiss Alps, Zurich is nothing short of a Swiss paradise. In the summer, the landscape is green and lush. In the winter, the snow-capped mountains just beg you to get out and try some winter sports. The beautiful architecture, crystal clear waters and towering mountains in the distance are sure to lull you into a sense of never wanting to leave this magical city.

An amazing way to see the city is on a boat cruise. Of course, in the land of luxury, you’ll be on a private boat and the tour will be at sunset. Is there any way else to cruise the lake? I think not. This four-hour Lake Zurich Sunset Boat Tour will let you sip champagne and design your own itinerary. Take in the setting sun as you also see the villas, beaches and parks around the lake.

For another fabulous way to view the city, head to Lindenhof Hill in the Old Town of Lindenhof Quarter. This public park is a Swiss Heritage Site and one of the best spots for getting the perfect Instagram picture. The park has a public square with the remains of a Roman medieval city wall and it offers incredible views of the Limmat River, Old Town, Grossmünster Church, City Hall, the university and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology..

If you still haven’t quite gotten enough of the incredible views of the city, there are more options! Uetliberg is Zurich’s home mountain and the perfect place to take in the spectacular views of the city, lake and Alps. Head to the lookout tower, either by train or on the hiking path, and soak up the glorious panoramic views.

Surely no trip to the city is complete without a shopping extravaganza. Whether you just window shop or splurge on something for yourself, you can’t miss at least walking down Bahnhofstrasse. This one-mile-long, traffic-free stretch of road is home to exclusive shops and boutiques where you will find an excess of fashion, art and local specialties. Both visitors and locals find themselves here, regardless of the season. If it’s chilly, be sure to grab some mulled wine or hot chocolate, available on nearly every corner. Since you’re on a luxury trip, you might as well have some of the best food around. Head to The Restaurant in the Dolder Grand Hotel for a culinary experience you won’t soon forget. This delightful spot has been awarded 19 GaultMillau points and two Michelin stars, making it one of the most highly rated restaurants in the city! According to the restaurant’s website, Chef Fine Dining Heiko Nieder “presents an array of intriguing dishes that defy classic culinary preconceptions.” Try them for yourself and see just how delectable food can be. Surely no dinner is complete without dessert, but don’t limit yourself to indulging at the end of the day. The fine chocolates in Zurich should be sampled as often as possible! There are many chocolatier options in the city, but check out Confiserie Honold. This family-owned business has been running since the early 18th century and created the world’s first cherry kirsch baton. Here you’ll find chocolate truffles, nutty pralines, chocolate bars, divine pastries that are so ornate they look like artwork and bread that will make your mouth water because it smells so good.

If you’ve been dreaming of seeing the Swiss Alps and have some money burning a hole in your pocket, start planning a trip to Zurich. Enjoy the perfect combination of the great outdoors and some of the city’s best shopping and dining experiences. This delightful city is sure to steal your heart.
