With laughter being the best medicine, “Puffs” conjures up a magical dose.
As the 2024-2025 Stuttgart Theatre Center season comes to an end, the closing show, “Puffs” directed by volunteer Rachel Kern, is voted most likely to make you spit out your butter beer laughing.

“Puffs,” otherwise known as “Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic,” is a cleverly devised parody of the Harry Potter series that focuses on the badger-loving Puffs. It follows their experiences at the wizarding school and the way their lives intersect with the lion-loving Braves (ie: those famous Gryffindor kids).
Playing the Narrator Bob King charismatically leads the audience through the trials and tribulations of seven years in academia and adventure from the Hufflepuffs’ perspective as we tag along with a not-so-well-known trio of students. Wayne (TSgt David Ansay), Oliver (TSgt Aaron Vonderharr) and (Mara Earp) mirror roles we recongized from the original famous wizarding trio. Their comedic timing and chemistry are hysterical to watch as they wrestle with teenage curiosities, chaos, angst and hormones.

Joining the leads of this group of misfits is an ensemble of fun and talented actors who take on various roles as other Puff students, school professors and even “the one who lived,” himself.
While Tye Wickham and Ed Galietto take on a variety of roles throughout the show, their portrayal of the First Headmaster and Professor Moody, respectively, deserves a bit of extra credit. In addition, Dayna Rowden, earns additional house points for her constant quick character changes.
Melissa Miller has no small task in her role as stage manager, employing pure magic to support this fun-loving cast who are in constant motion juggling props and new costumes.

James Earp, recent TOPPERS award recipient for best set design, did not fail his assignment for setting the “Puffs’ stage. Easily earning an A+ for the construction and functionality of the beautiful set, Earp created a visual world of wizarding (without breaking any trademark laws) for the talented cast to run, fly, scooter and cast spells in.
Join the magic and adventures, “Puffs” style, as the volunteer cast and crew give lessons in laughter and fun that audiences will enjoy even when the show is done.
