Grimm tales in the spotlight at KMC Onstage

Journey to a land not so far away for fun and laughter with the “Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon!”

With tales as old as time, co-directors Ann Pinson and Julie Phillips enchant their audiences with a fun and lively cast of 25 students.

Audience members are in for a treat, immediately becoming part of the original classic fairytale world as they enter the lobby. Adorned with trees, cottages, towers and wishing wells, the KMC Onstage Studio in on Daenner Kaserne is transformed into a delightful German fairytale route that would make the Grimm brothers feel right at home.

As the show begins, so too does the audience participation. With announcements from Struwwelpeter (Dorian Schwarz), himself, everyone watching is reminded that sometimes when you don’t follow expectations, “very bad things” can indeed happen.

Throughout the show, the narrators, played by Timothy Quezada and Maxx Izulch, whimsically escort the audience through some of the darker and “unmouse-ified” versions of the OG stories collected by the Brothers Grimm with characters like Snow White (Avery Smith), Rapunzel (Gabrielle Phipps) and Cinderella (Avelyn Estes).

There are diversions into less-well-known Grimm tales like the hysterically dark tale of Faithful Johannes (Jackson Gladney) and his moral quandry when confronted by a talking Raven (Arden Foster).

Amongst charmingly designed and painted sets and clever props, the energetic youth cast members prance, dance, and brighten even the darkest of these tales with their talent and smiles.

Each character, dressed in fairy tale magic by Jessica Steele and the costume team, enjoys the opportunity to unite the audience in laughter with well timed one liners, fun facial expressions, high-spirited actions and a constant barrage of comedy.

Audience members, young and old, will find a character guaranteed to make them giggle and cheer, from the mischievous Rumpelstiltskin (Ruby Phillips) to the salvation-seeking Hansel (Danilo Villa Espinoza) and Gretel (Skye Uhle). They will also enjoy the dynamic performance of Actor, played by Dorian Schwarz, as he takes on a variety of roles with the retelling of Cinderella.
