European fast food restaurants ()

When you live in a region with a plethora of fresh, organic foods and produce, it’s easy to find delicious gourmet eats. Europe is brimming with Michelin-starred restaurants, but I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes all I want is a quick burger and fries. While there are plenty of McDonald’s and Burger Kings to choose from, there are also some unique and interesting fast food option across the continent. Here are seven options to get you started.

Quick (Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Morocco)

This fast-food chain was established in 1971 in Belgium. Four decades later, more than 400 restaurants have been established. With menu items similar to a typical burger joint, there are a few noticeable differences. The Belgian-style fries will never be too salty, as customers salt their own order. The menu changes often, and has been known to offer specialties such as deep-fried cheese nuggets and beignets.

Wimpy (U.K.)

“I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.” Uttered by the Popeye character of the same name, Wimpy offers typical fast-food fare — with English flair. Customers can order a traditional English breakfast (beans, tomato, eggs, bacon, bangers and toast), or a Big N Mighty which has a hamburger, hotdog, bacon and onion rings in the bun. Vegetarians and vegans can also find multiple burger options.

Nordsee (continental Europe)

This German-based seafood chain has more than 400 franchises throughout Europe. Most Nordsee locations can be found in transportation hubs and city centers. Patrons can purchase small bites like fish sandwhiches, wraps and salads or large meals of fish and chips or sushi menus. They also sell fresh, raw seafood. Their are often seasonal items such as prawns with spinach risotto, a pulled-salmon bagel and salmon and Spargel during the spring.

Telepizza (Spain, Poland and Portugal)

Founded in Madrid, this chain has more than 1,400 pizzerias in nine countries worldwide. Known for its fresh dough and ingredients, Telepizza offers classic menu items but is known more for its unique pies. The BBQ Pizza is topped with savory beef, chicken, bacon and BBQ sauce. Or try the Wok Pizza, with fresh vegetables and delicious sauce.

Nando’s (U.K. and Ireland)

Nando’s has a unique backstory. This South-African based chain perfected the Portuguese recipe for Peri-Peri chicken. Opened in 1987, you can find this chicken throughout the U.K. and Ireland. Chicken is marinated overnight and flame-grilled. If you’re not a fan of spicy foods, be sure to order yours "Plain-ish."

YO! Sushi (U.K., Ireland)

If traveling to Japan for sushi just isn’t in the cards, make a stop at YO! Sushi on your next visit to the U.K. or Ireland. Chefs prepare fresh sushi and other tasty dishes in an open-kitchen atmosphere, and then place it on the conveyer belt. Diners then grab their favorites as they pass by their table or seat. Best known for fresh sushi and tempting curries, YO! Sushi also offers furikake French fries, succulent gyoza and sweet chocolate mochi for dessert.

Supermac’s (Ireland)

If you’re in the mood for a burger but your kiddos or traveling buddies want subs, check out Supermac’s. With stacked burgers and crispy fries, there is something for every palate. Be sure to sample their specialty fries, smothered with curry and garlic, cheese and garlic or taco meat. Hosting an impromptu informal dinner? Supermac’s also offers buckets of chicken and also cocktail sausages.
