There is a kaleidoscope of thoughts in one’s mind before they hit the point of slumber as they lay on the bed. Often, your eyelids feel heavy, your mind seems blocked, and all you can fantasize is about your bed. However, when the time comes for you to collapse on your pillow, the sleep is nowhere to be found. Whatever the case may be, trouble in falling asleep is one of the most frustrating experiences.

If it takes you forever to fall asleep, here are some tips to help you unwind before bed.

1. Play some music Listening to music before bed is beneficial to kill the streak of insomnia. Studies suggest that listening to music can improve the quality of the sleep as it quickly takes the stress level down. Treating your ears with some calm and soothing tunes can derive a sense of relaxation and help you sleep. In fact, it can result in a much more rested sleep throughout the night.

2. Do some reading A 2009 study, conducted by the University of Exeter, which was reported by the Telegraph, emphasized how reading can be the most effective method to bring down the running mind to rest in this digital age. So the next time you are looking to unwind, seek refuge under a good, light-hearted and warm book.

3. Meditation Meditation can be the most effective sleep aid you can practice as it intends to flush out the toxicity going round in your mind. This mind-calming practice is best to do before bedtime as it takes away the extra stress and anxiety, fatigue and insomnia.

4. Sip the stress out Steer off the caffeine from your routine as it can keep you awake longer than needed. Instead, replace sip on warm milk or herbal drinks like chamomile or peppermint tea to help you have a sound eight-hour sleep and detoxify at the same time.
