It’s Friday night, and you just want to let loose from an exhausting work week (finally!). But where to go? Check out this awesome list of bars, clubs and lounges in downtown Kaiserslautern, and leave your stresses on the dance floor or at the bar.

Copa Lounge

At this Cuban-inspired restaurant, bar and lounge, you’ll forget you’re in Germany and think you’ve stepped back in time to 1950s Cuba when Che Guevara was the most influential revolutionist. Their delicious and nicely garnished cocktails average about 7 euros, and they serve everything from a simple Weizen Bier to a Mexican Colada. There is also an array of hookah (or Shisha), with many different flavors. Share some tapas with friends while sipping on a caipirinha, and enjoy your weekend!

21 Lounge

If you’re feeling fancy, the 21 lounge is the place for you. Located on the 21st floor of the Rathaus in downtown K-Town, this lounge offers a panoramic view of Kaiserslautern. Enjoy their fusion cuisine as well as a list of international wines and classic cocktails — though I’d prefer their wine, and of course, Pils Bier. There is also a terrace where you can enjoy the view with a drink in hand, just perfect for those upcoming warm summer nights.

Moloneys

You know that one Irish pub in K-Town that everyone on base seems to be talking about? This traditional Irish Pub is popular among beer drinkers. It’s also centrally located, which is a plus for anyone who enjoys bar hopping. With a live band and a few Guinesses, who wouldn't enjoy spending their Friday or Saturday night here?

Located across the main bus station at the Schillerplatz, this conveniently located bar and grill offers a cozy and unique ambience. Enjoy traditional cocktails, such as a mojito or a LIT, if you’ve had a long week. You can also hear live music every Friday and Saturday at 11 p.m.

Gusto

If you plan on doing some bar-hopping after Bullitt, you can walk right over to Gusto Nightlounge. Considered to be the pioneer of the night cafe scene, this bar and lounge is always full and serves some of the best cocktails in K-Town. It may be small and smoke-friendly, but the fact that this lounge is always full is a good sign. Though it may not be known to many Americans, the atmosphere and music will make you feel like you are at a lounge in a swanky big city.

Nachtschicht

"Night Shift" in English, this four floor dance club is Kaiserslautern’s biggest club. Each level has a different theme. The Agostea is the main hall, which provides a mixture of baroque elements with vibrant colors. The Mausefalle, or mouse trap, represents an alpine apres-ski-hut and plays hits of the 80s and 90s. The Plaza caters to people who enjoy sipping on stylish drinks while listening to electronic music ranging between hard and chill. In the Lavie, you will find a comfortable lounge atmosphere with a modern twist.

The Underground

Calling all metal heads! If you are a fan of heavy rock music, then step inside the basement that is known as the Underground. Every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to12 p.m. you will find all beers for 1.50 euros. This bar plays rock and metal every Friday and Saturday.

Brauhaus am Markt

Probably one of the more popular hangout spots in downtown K-Town, this place not only offers tasty, traditional German food, but it also provides refreshing beers, classic cocktails and one of my personal favorites, Riesling. If you’re with a large party, order the three to five liter beer tower. Their beer is home-brewed and unfiltered, which makes this restaurant and bar unique. As the summer nights approach, enjoy your drinks outside with great company.
