Troop 295, part of Scouting America’s Transatlantic Council (TAC), strengthened community ties during the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) National Day of Service in Vicenza, Italy.
The VFW National Day of Service is a nationwide initiative bringing together veterans, families and community partners to complete projects that improve local communities.
In Vicenza, Troop 295 partnered with the VFW, its chartered organization which provides leadership and sponsorship, to conduct area beautification at Gruppo Pensionati La Rondine, home to Mediterranean Post 8862 and a gathering place for local retirees. The effort highlighted the strong partnership between the U.S. military-connected community and its Italian host nation neighbors.
Scouts demonstrated leadership and teamwork while advancing in Scouting America’s merit badge program, which teaches practical skills and career exploration. During the event, Scouts made progress toward merit badges such as First Aid and earned the Paul Bunyan Woodsman Award.
“The VFW is proud to support these Scouts as they give back and learn the value of service,” said a representative from Mediterranean Post 8862.
A participating Scout added, “It felt good to help and see the difference we made.”
Troop 295 thanks Vicenza City Councilman Mr. Matteo Tosetto for his continued support, along with the staff of Gruppo Pensionati La Rondine for their hospitality and for providing a traditional Italian meal. The VFW also contributed T-shirts and hosted a shared lunch, followed by a friendly game of bocce ball.
Through efforts like this, Troop 295 Vicenza and the TAC continue to promote service, leadership and international community connections.
Youth ages 5 to 20 can join Scouting America programs year round through local TAC units.
