Tiergarten Nuremberg is a very special destination that attracts more than one million visitors per year, making the almost 70-hectare facility one of the top tourist highlights in Germany. Countless big and small animals and a landscape characterized by rocks and forest create an interesting, relaxing and exciting experience.

The unique landscaped zoo is home to around 300 species of animals to include giraffes, zebras, kangaroos, polar bears, penguins, meerkats and much more. For those who love dolphins, be sure to visit the dolphin exhibition that’s been open since 2011. This open-air facility is the only one in Germany for marine mammals. These mammals can come close to the visitors and can be viewed through a huge underwater panoramic window.

If you’re curious about manatees, head to the tropical-warm Manatee house with its colorful butterflies, fishes and many other jungle animals in a lush sprawling flora. Another special exhibit is the desert house. Visitors and animals are in a large, walk-in terrarium together. There are typical desert dwellers such as geckos, agamas or fat sand rats and countless dung beetles that almost scurry the visitors over their feet.

Tiergarten is a real family destination, and with the family card, all children (up to 17 years) are included. In the children's zoo, children can get up close and personal with animals. They can also let off steam to their heart's content on the playgrounds. There is a small train "Little Eagle" that goes directly to the large Jako-o playground or back to the exit. Everyone can bring their own vespers and may stay at one of the many picnic areas. Tiergarten Nuremberg is easily accessible by tram from the main station (until the summer, when an alternative bus leaves from the Mögeldorfer Plärrer). Those who present a ticket of public transport can even receive a discounted ticket price.
