Last minute weekend activities for KMC families

Even though we live where everyone dreams of vacationing, sometimes it can be hard finding things to do on the weekends. Here are some fun things to do in the  KMC that will fill your Saturday with joy and excitement for the whole family!

Barfußpfad Bad Sobernheim - Sobernheim

In English that translates to Barefoot park! I had never seen one until Germany. As the name hints, you go through the whole park without shoes on! Begin by paying an entrance fee of only 4 euros for adults and 2.50 for children. Then make sure you have an extra euro  for the storage locker where you can put your phone, wallet, shoes, bags, etc. Then it’s time to begin! They start you off with, in my opinion, one of the most daunting tasks of the whole park, wading through calf-high deep mud. The park continues to provide obstacles with different textures to provide a unique sensory experience for your feet! From wading through mud to skipping rocks in the creek or the playground at the end, there is definitely something for the whole family to enjoy! (Tip: Make sure to bring euros; they don’t take card!)

Dynamikum Museum - Pirmasens

More the indoor type? That’s okay, there’s still plenty to experience, especially the Dynamikum Museum. This museum offers a hands-on science experience for the whole family! All exhibits feature some type of hands-on element to allow kids and parents alike to have fun while still learning about science. Learn the science of sports through movement, or the physics of a rollercoaster by lifetime experimentation, or even how high you can jump with a jumping station that videotapes you! The entrance fee is 11 euros for adults, for children or students 5 and older it’s 9.50 euro or for children under 5, it’s free. Don’t worry you will get your money’s worth with both indoor and outdoor experiments the whole family will be talking about the rest of the week. Wanna break from science? They offer an escape room you and the family can attempt for an additional cost. For more information visit their official website.

Wildpark Betzenberg - Kaiserslautern

Sometimes it’s nice to have a family excursion without breaking the bank, that’s why I recommend the Wildpark Betzenberg. It’s free and will be enjoyable for the whole family. Right on the outskirts of Kaiserslautern, this park acts as a nature preservation park for endangered species such as the bison they house. Walk through the forest with their 120-year-old trees encompassing the park. Meet a wild friendly horse, or stand feet away from a bison. Don’t forget your camera! It even offers an educational outlet with the signs on each enclosure informing the public of the animal. Don’t want to pay for lunch? Bring a picnic basket, but be careful the animals might think it’s for them!

Whether it’s getting your feet dirty, learning about science, or experiencing nature first hand, the Kaiserslautern area has much to offer. Never again find yourself on a Saturday with nothing to do!
